7-16-2011 Holbrook Meteorite 99th Anniversary

This event was simply fantastic! I did not see anyone not having a good time.

Here are Wendy's finds for the three days that we were there. She actually found 5 meteorites the day of the hunt but got them mixed up. She did really good!

And, here are my finds for just the 16th...

Now, as you can see, one of these is unusual. I showed this to several people in the field and most said WOW. It appears to be a very small iron meteorite. It has no rust and it not like any other found. It is also unllike any of the railroad garbage that is out there!

And then, while in the field, my hunting buddy, Richard Garcia, calls me on the radio asking where I was located! I tell him and look around and see him making a b-line right for me. When he gets there, huffing and puffing, he asks me if this is a meteorite. I could hardly speak! I said, ....uhhh...well YEAH! And if it wasn't it's the best meteor-wrong I had ever seen! What an awesome rock! This is actually the only picture I took in the field and the first picture from my new phone! Turned out aok. What an awesome stone, don't you think. 47 grams. I looked around for Ruben and saw him helping some folks ID a meteorite, so I headed for him and let him know he needed to go see Richard.

As you can see in Ruben's video , Erik Fisler found an awesome stone. I'd guess it to be about 3 or 4" deep. Watch the video, I think you will enjoy it. All I can say is if you missed this hunt you really missed a good time.

Here is who was left after the awards were given out....

So, during the time spent in the Patio area of the Motel, these little guys made sure everyone was happy and having a good time

Here is Michael Brooks preparing some food with Dennis Miller looking on with that look on his face like..."You going to eat that?"

Ben and Erik, talking meteorites...

Then there was Wendy Wooddell teaching Terry Scott and Rob Crane how to hunt meteorites. As you can see, Rob was just way overwhelmed!

And afterwards, Terry Scott was just a happy camper!

My good Friend Ruben Garcia, "Yeah, in order to find meteorites hunting two different directions I hunt with my eyes closed"!

I would only say this this because he is a good friend and I am messing around! Students were in awe of the teachings from the Master Ruben...

Note Michael Brooks behind the tree still building that sandwich!

There were TWO Garcias at this event. Both from New Mexico, but not related. For some reason, I noticed both of them talk a special language with their hands! I had to get the shot...
